I Never Thought I'd Say This

But how sweet is George Bush Sr.?? I caught the piece on the Today Show this morning of him at the press conference after Barbara Bush's heart surgery this week and watched it half-dressed for work with my hands on my cheeks, floored. While he started out the press conference in true husband fashion by ribbing her for having a pig's valve in her chest, he ended up breaking down and crying because he was overcome with emotion at how nervous he was that his beloved wife was undergoing major surgery. It was so touching. And to top it off, NBC put together a little montage of their love story: meeting over 60 years ago, getting secretly engaged, the wedding, his love letters to her - it was like a real-life fairytale. Hopefully what we saw was genuine and, if he really loves her like that behind closed doors, then - wow - Barb is a very lucky lady.

When I asked hubby what he thought, he said "Come on! He's the former head of the CIA! Do you really think he wrote those love letters?" How on earth, I wonder, did a hopeless romantic and a die-hard skeptic end up together?

Throwback Friday!
If you look closely you can see a little bee at the back of the shoe and his flight pattern on the tongue. How darling. Will Chuck Taylors ever go out of style?

Disturbia

Did you all read the summary of the police affidavit from the officer on the scene after the Chris Brown and Rihanna incident? It's shocking. If the statements are true - and I have to assume they are because hopefully Rihanna wouldn't lie to police - then Chris B. has serious issues. And I would venture to say that she does too because she's supposedly back with him. I mean she's 21 for crying out loud. Can't one of her family members or friends let her know that she absolutely doesn't need to put up with that? That she has the world at her fingertips and that she just needs to let him go?

As for him - I hope he gets help. I really do. Up until this incident, he had the world at his fingertips too. But just like that, because of an angry rage over a freakin' text message, he will have a criminal record. He probably is the product of an abusive household as he's said in the past, but it's unfortunate that his past manifested in this way. No Michael Phelps Special Treatment for him. Nor should there be. I'm no therapist but it sounds to me like they have dependency and enabling issues.

What a mess.

On the Back Burner

Remember, most likely before you became a mom, when you had all the time in the world to take care of you? I was thinking about the types of things that I would have done a long time ago if I didn't have 3 little people to worry about first. Now, don't get me wrong, I love doting over my babies and shopping for them and clipping their little fingernails - I wouldn't trade it for the world. But it occurred to me as I pulled out my expired mascara this morning (and applied it anyway) that there are some things that I just haven't bothered to do for me because they are on the bottom of my to-do list.

As trivial and sad as it may sound, stocking my makeup bag is something that has been on my backburner for, literally, years. My best friend from junior college (in Canada) used to work for MAC Cosmetics and she would keep me well-stocked with latest foundation, lip glass, eye shadow and what have you. Now, I am not a big makeup person by any means (even before kids I only wore lip gloss and mascara) but at least the makeup I used to have was decent! Now my makeup case consists of a cheap tube of liquid foundation from the grocery store, an old compact of broken blush and accompanying broken brush, the same eyeshadow that my friend gave me years ago, a lip gloss that my sister put in my Christmas stocking and a brand!new! mascara from...the grocery store.

I always say that one day soon I am going to go to a makeup counter in a respectable store and replenish my makeup collection. But when it comes down to it, I really much prefer spending money on Happy Meals (for shame) or fun children's books or even tickets to a kids' show. And so on the backburner my makeup case stays. For now.

Daily Shoe Feedback

Hi Blogistas!

I've already received a couple of requests for what types of shoes to feature in The Daily Shoe and I'd love to hear more. If you have a special request (i.e. you need a shoe for a wedding or even a funeral) or if you want something in a certain color or price range, let me know!

Hey, I'm here to serve the people.

[Wow! So many of you contacted me to say how much you loved the Cavalli shoe! That will be a tough act to follow. I think Cavalli's people should give me a free pair for publicizing their shoe, no?]

Ah, the Christian Louboutin Mirrored Platform Pump. Adored by shoe lovers everywhere. These dazzling beauties come in silver too if the pink doesn't tickle your fancy. Then again, if the pink doesn't tickle your fancy, then clearly you are unconscious and the silver shoe will do you no good anyhow.

Fight or Flight?

I'm curious - what's your fighting style? Not like fist-fighting but arguing-fighting, like with your mate. Everyone has their own style, whether they realize it or not. Maybe you are confrontational or The Instigator (shame on you). Or you could be passive agressive (plotting your silent revenge) or even a lip-biter who prefers to keep the peace. I've always been one to pick my battles - even more so now that I've been married for some years. So for the most part I don't stir the pot unless there's a good reason. But when I have strong feelings about something - I will let you know and I won't let it go. I've been wondering what the most effective arguing style is. I'm guessing the one that diffuses the situation the fastest and fosters communication. But then that's not really any fun now, is it?

In My Next Life

In my next life I will...

  • study abroad during a semester in college
  • intern at a major magazine in Manhattan during my summers in college
  • not be so stressed the week of my wedding
  • plan ahead so that I can stay home with my babies for at least the first year of their little lives
  • get LASIK when I have the chance
  • wait before buying a house that will require me to work full-time for the rest of my days
  • not be a scaredy cat

In honor of today's snow storm, I thought I'd pick some cute warm and fuzzy winter boots. Happy Sledding! The kiddies and I are off to hit the (front yard) slopes - in far less stylish footwear, mind you.
